Album Review: Wish Defense by FACS

Challenging, confrontational, and impossible to ignore, this is a record that is as much a piece of Steve Albini's legacy as it is to their own magnum opus The press release for Wish Defense, the new album by FACS, came with a note that immediately cemented its place in history: “Wish Defense is the last album engineered by Steve Albini. Two days were recorded at Electrical Audio in early May of 2024 before Steve's untimely passing, with renowned engineer and friend Sanford Parker stepping in to finish the session… John Congleton mixed the album as Albini would have, in Electrical Audio's A room, off the tape, using Albini's notes about the session. ” Even without hearing a note, that alone makes Wish Defense significant, but the true weight of this record lies in its incredible (and incredibly powerful) music.
